Chemnitz, also called Karl-Marx-Stadt in GDR times, had developed incredibly in the last years. The booming commercial area, modern shopping centres and eventful cultural centres add to the image of this tradition-filled town. Chemnitz and the surrounding area has a lot to offer: 2 town halls, the Roter Tur(red tower), the Nikolai church, the Karl Marx monument, the König Albert Museum and the 'stone forest' on the theatre square, the Freiberg-silver-mining town, Seiffen spa town- genuine carved crafts from the Erzbegirge Visitors mine and the 'Frohnauer Hammer' and the Sachsenring racing course.
