Nuremberg ginger bread (Lebkuchen) and sausages (Rostbratwurst) are popular the world over. But Nuremberg is also an industrial and political centre, it is actually one of the leading commercial sites in southern Germany. And when we say commerce, we don't restrict it to the famous yearly Christmas Market. Peter Henlein constructed the first pocket watch, called the 'Nuremberg Egg', and Germany's first railway line ran between Nuremberg and neighbouring Fuerth. The landmark is the Castle in red sandstone, with parts of the old fortification walls. Atrium Hotel Nürnberg lies in a large park next to the 'Meistersingerhalle' convention complex, bordering the downtown area, halfway between the picturesque Old Town and the fair ground.
